1. Claire already has every toy she could want, as well as a whole lot of clothes courtesy of hand-me-downs from Elsa and Karina.
2. Claire's birthday is April 22, which is Earth Day.
So here's my idea: In lieu of gifts, please consider making a donation in Claire's name to an environmental charity. What better way to celebrate Claire joining our increasingly fragile planet on the very day that attempts to raise awareness of its status?
To that end, I've created a wish list of charitable donations for Claire on www.changingthepresent.org. Here's a link to Claire's list:

Or, you can go here to adopt an animal for Claire through the World Wildlife Fund. There are 100 species to choose from, and donation amounts start at $25:

So do you want to buy her another toy, or do you want to save her a sea turtle? : ) These websites make it very easy to select one of these "gifts" from her wish list and make the donation online—it couldn't be simpler or quicker. You don't even have to set foot in a mall or Toys R Us.
I think this will be a nice tradition for us to start–something that can be uniquely Claire's (i.e., not shared with Elsa) and will make her feel special. Think of all the money she could raise for causes like these, over a lifetime of birthdays. We can keep track of it over time, and show her and Elsa what she's accomplished, all because she had the foresight to be born on Earth Day. Of course, I know there will come a time when she'll just want stuff, and she won't love this idea nearly as much as I do. But at least for right now, she doesn't know the difference, so let's take advantage of it!
But of course, this is only a suggestion. It's up to you—if you would like to get her a more traditional gift, that's fine and greatly appreciated as well. Thanks, everybody!
