Grandpa and Grandma J. came to visit us the weekend before Christmas. Elsa and Claire had such a blast with them. We did all kinds of playing and baking.

We found out the night before they arrived that Bob made partner, so Elsa helped Grandma make a congratulations cake for Daddy.

We also made and decorated Christmas cookies (this was one of our advent calendar activities for those days). Elsa particularly loved frosting the cookies. They were
very thoroughly frosted by the time she was done.

Then we decorated.

Masterpieces in sugar.

Another advent calendar activity that Grandpa and Grandma helped with was making "edible gifts" for the birds and squirrels in our backyard. We thawed a frozen bagel and put peanut butter and birdseed on it.

Then we hung the two halves from tree branches in the backyard. Unfortunately, the squirrels in our yard must be very well fed, because they still haven't touched their treats! We've seen them scampering around, but the ungrateful little critters haven't so much as nibbled on them yet. And I haven't seen a single bird since we put the bagels out. We've never fed our wildlife before, so they must have all moved to more generous yards for the winter. Oh well, I'm sure somebody will find them eventually.

Of course, another highlight of the weekend was opening presents.

Elsa got this really cool tent, usable both indoors and out.

It has a tunnel they can crawl through. Claire loved sitting at the end of the tunnel while Elsa crawled through. Hopefully it won't be too long before Claire likes crawling through it herself!

Elsa also got an old-fashioned View Master, with the new-fangled addition of sound effects. Other gifts included a bug-catching kit (including a magnifying glass and bug cage). Claire got a water mat (which I hoped would make her more willing to do tummy time, but so far no such luck), a caterpillar that rolls when you push down on it, and a goofy-looking birdy that makes her smile.

But as usual, Claire enjoyed the paper as much as anything.

And here's Elsa helping Belle with her presents (Grandpa and Grandma J.
never forget about Belle—just one of many reasons she loves them so very much.)

We gave Grandpa and Grandma some framed pictures of the girls, plus a 2010 photo calendar starring Elsa, Claire, Carter, and Mia.

We're so happy we got to celebrate with Grandpa and Grandma! Thank you for all the wonderful presents—we had so much fun with you guys and miss you very much!
