We had our usual family outing to the State Fair, and we had a good time as always. There was something for everybody this year: Quilts for me, animals for Claire (she was a little freaked out by the cows, but loved the chickens and rabbits), and rides and food for Elsa and Bob.

This year's first mini-roller-coaster ride didn't seem to go over well at the start ...

... but by the end of the ride she was loving it.

And on the next roller coaster, she went straight for the front seat. Brave girl!

She liked this Dukes of Hazzard ride as well.

I doubt kids this age know much about the Dukes of Hazzard (Elsa certainly doesn't), and yet they all gravitated to the General Lees instead of the cop cars. No budding Roscoe P. Coletrains among State Fair patrons, I guess.

Elsa also enjoyed a few of the more grown-up rides, like the ferris wheel and the tilt-a-whirl.

But her favorite ride by far was this "Jumping" thing. It went about straight up about 20 feet and then sort of bounced its way down. She went on this one FIVE times.

To me, this face says, "I'm scared and I'm loving it."

By the fifth time, she was an old pro at it and was the only kid brave enough to raise her arms up the whole time!

Here are Daddy and Claire killing time while I look at the quilts. They were a bunch of old-lady quilts (not my cup of tea), but impressive workmanship nonetheless.

And here are Daddy and Claire killing time while Elsa does yet another ride. The only way Elsa would leave the midway to see the animals was to be bribed with the promise of fair food. And even then, she complained the whole time about how stinky the barns were.

Dinner was a corn dog and frozen chocolate-covered cheesecake on a stick. Yum!

Here's what Claire thinks of corn dogs.
