We had the usual joint birthday party for Carter and Elsa while we were in Michigan, but this year a few other birthday "kids" joined us. Gigi's birthday is the same day as Carter's, and Nancy and Abby (my cousin Cheryl's daughter) also have birthdays in August, so we were celebrating FIVE birthdays at our party.

Since it will be Gigi's 88th birthday, Ellen had a great idea for a present for her. She suggested that we put together a list of 88 reasons that we love Gigi. All of Gigi's kids, grandkids, and several great-grandchildren contributed their own reasons why they think Gigi is so wonderful. I put them all together into a photo book with 60-some years' worth of pictures. She loved it and basically spent the rest of the evening looking at it over and over.

Carter and Elsa scored the rest of the presents. Carter got a Super Soaker and a Lego fire boat.

Elsa got exactly what she wanted: Lots of Toy Store stuff! She got a talking Jessie doll, a Buzz Lightyear video-game gun thingy, and a Toy Story playground set with little tiny figures from the movie that can play on it. The Shaffers also gave Elsa a subscription to "High Five," which is Highlights for preschoolers. She already loves the hidden pictures!

We had the bakery write "Happy Birthday, Everyone" on the cake. Clearly, there wasn't enough cake for all those names.

We had a great Michigan birthday celebration. And Elsa is so excited because Grandma B. is even coming to her Wisconsin birthday celebration. Thanks to everyone for already making Elsa's birthday so fun, even though it was still weeks away. : )
