And Then They Goed Home

Elsa's been telling stories to Bob and I lately, so I thought I'd transcribe one for you here. Her stories invariably involve Howl, Blackie, a rainforest, apples, onions, and oranges. There's also usually some tree-climbing involved. This one's no exception.

"And Then They Goed Home," by Elsa Heinrich

Once upon a time, there were two little kids. The kids were Daddy and Elsa. They could cuddle in Howl and Blackie's Rainforest. And then Howl and Blackie could read one of my books. And then they goed home. And then they picked potatoes. And then they picked apples and onions for later. And then they goed on their fishing boat and they climbed their highest tree.

And then they got something from their star. And it had a face from side to side. And then they climbed their ladder and got their little chipmunk down and they goed across the river. And they climbed the tree for onions and apples and oranges for next time. "That were yummy," said Howl.

And then they goed home. And there was a big long slide. And they were scared of the big long slide. And it was bumpy. And Howl and Blackie was very upset. And Elsa was going on the big long slide too. And then they goed home. And they brought some apples there and they goed out to their river, and they hid from the crocodiles from side to side. And then they goed home.

The End

Lee,
Loved Elsa's story - certainly reminded me of you as a little girl. Soon, Elsa can tell bedtime stories to Claire!!

I love that we get a glimpse into their heads now that they can talk so well. Very funny!
