May Preschool Update

Elsa's last day of school is May 28. It's hard to believe the school year is almost done already! Elsa's first year of school, already come and gone. We're pretty sad about that, but we're looking forward to a fun summer. Elsa will be doing several one-week day camps at the Audubon, as well as T-ball and a one-week pom-pom clinic through the Mequon rec department. Plus we have trips to Michigan and Door County planned for August, and hopefully making lots of visits to parks, playgrounds, the pool, and the zoo. Yay summer!

At any rate, here is Elsa's last preschool update of the year. (sniff sniff)

April Highlights

Spring Plants
The children enjoyed planting seeds in the classrooms and helped Liesl plant ferns in the Woods play area. They watched the seeds grow as they watered them and then looked for spring wildflowers growing as they hiked in the woods.

Raptor Building Visit
All the classes visited the raptor building. This is a very special visit as this area is not open to the public. The raptors at the building include hawks, owls, falcons, kestrels, and eagles, to name a few.

May Nature Experiences
In addition to continuing our exploration of seeds and plants, we will be exploring the ponds and Lake Michigan looking for animals and plants. We will also be taking hikes to the children's favorite places.

Pond Life
A diversity of plants and animals live in and around the pond. They have special adaptations for life in the water. We will be visiting Teale Pond, Boardwalk Pond, and Mystery Pond (although it is now called a lake) to find the diversity of macro invertebrates that live in the water. We will also be looking for goslings and ducklings that may have hatched.

Lake Michigan
Lake Michigan and the beach are home to a variety of life. We will be visiting the lake to see how it has changed since the winter ice-canoes were there.

Amphibians/Reptiles
Amphibians live part of their life in the water and part on land, and go through a metamorphosis as they grow up. We will be looking for tadpoles in the water and salamanders under logs and rocks. We will also be searching for turtles and other reptiles at the pond.
