March Highlights
Maple Sugaring
The children spent the month of March maple sugaring. This included each class tapping a maple tree, collecting the sap and boiling it over a fire. Inside, at their maple sugar camps, they pretended to make maple syrup. We actually made three quarters of a gallon of syrup from the sap the children collected, which they enjoyed on pancakes.
April Nature Experiences
We will be looking for signs of spring as the weather warms this month. We will be planting seeds, watching for spring migrants, looking for animals that are waking up from hibernation, and visiting the Raptor Building.
Signs of Spring
As the weather begins to warm, we will start seeing small plants growing, animals coming out of hibernation, buds on the trees and geese nesting. We will be visiting the different habitats at the nature center to look for signs of spring.
Spring Plants
The children will be planting seeds to grow flowers and vegetable plants in the classrooms. Some of these will go home with the children at the end of the year and others will be planted in our outdoor gardens to grow this summer.
Raptor Building Visit
Each class will be visiting the raptor building on the nature center grounds. They will get to see the hawks, owls, kestrels, and eagles that live there.
