We went in to see Claire's normal doctor a few days ago, to follow up about her collarbone. And the news was extremely good!
We didn't even need to do any additional x-rays—the doctor just felt her collarbone. She said there was a little nub where the bone is healing and it feels like it's healing very well. Those little 3-year-old bones heal amazingly quickly! Dr. Anna said she thought the total healing time would be three to four weeks, but most likely closer to three.
She also asked Claire to raise her arms above her head, which Claire did, with no hesitation. The doctor said that anyone who is still in pain from a broken collarbone cannot raise their arms above their head, and since Claire could, that must mean it's healing very, very well already. So that led to the best news of all: No more sling! I was thrilled to be able to take the sling off Claire—she was already moving her arm around like there was nothing there at all, so honestly it seemed silly to continue having her wear it.
The doctor told us we didn't even need to come back in for another follow-up appointment or any more x-rays. We can just assume that after three to four weeks, she's completely healed. Her one caution was that we have to be very careful that Claire doesn't take any falls in the next 2 to 3 weeks, because while it's still healing, she could easily re-break it. That made me nervous—she is three, after all! Trips and spills are part of the program. But we'll work on it, of course.
Yay, Claire!!
