15-Month Check-Up

Claire had her 15-month check-up yesterday. She surprised everybody (including me) by weighing in at "only" 27 pounds, 6 ounces. This is a gain of just 11 ounces in the past three months! Even more remarkably, it actually puts her on the charts. She is now in the 95th percentile for weight. Her height was 30.5 inches, which is the 50th percentile, and her head circumference was 48.5 cm, which is the 95th percentile (so at least her weight matches her head ...).

So, continuing my habit of comparing her stats to Elsa's, Elsa was 31.25 inches tall (75th%), and 27 pounds, 1 oz., at her 15-month check-up. So Claire is still fatter than Elsa, not to mention shorter. However, it's worth noting that Elsa gained almost 1.5 pounds between 12 and 15 months, then gained more than 3 and half pounds by the time she turned 18 months, bumping her back off the weight charts once again. We'll see if Claire follows suit—I have a feeling she won't, and she'll weigh less than Elsa by 18 months.

Other than that, the doctor is concerned about a little bit of eczema on Claire's elbows and knees. She thinks we should cut out all products with fragrance, and eliminate fabric softener altogether, at least for a few months. The doctor was of course amazed by Claire's verbal abilities, and said she's doing great when it comes to fine motor skills—it's those darn gross motor skills that are still the problem. Once again, it's deja vu all over again from when Elsa was this age. Although admittedly, Claire is much further behind in this area than even Elsa was (since Elsa started walking right around her 15-month birthday). The doctor again told me I should be calling the physical therapists, and I just might this time—we'll see how Claire progresses in the next week or two.

We can't wait to see the little talker! Maybe Mia can show Claire a few tricks with walking and Claire can give Mia some pointers on how to prounounce some new words!

See you soon!
