Yesterday was a nice day, by our standards—the sun was out and it was in the high 30s. As we were heading out the door to preschool, I was rushing around and was oblivious to everything but loading the kids into the car and getting on our way. But Elsa stopped for a moment and listened to the birds singing. She noticed that a bird was singing a song that sounded like, "Hey, sweetie!" She said learned about that bird in school.
When we got to school, Elsa proudly told her teacher, Miss Michelle, that she had heard a bird saying, "Hey, sweetie!" Miss Michelle was genuinely happy and amazed that Elsa had noticed that, because she said that's a sign of spring. The bird that says it is the chickadee—they say "Chick-a-dee-dee-dee" in winter, and then switch to "Hey, sweetie" in the spring, to attract a mate.
So who cares what the groundhog thought! We've had our first real sign of spring, and Elsa was the one to notice it.
